The death penalty is the punishment that is imposed on a person for committing a crime. There are multiple versions of the death penalty and it has created great controversy because in cases where the alleged offender may be innocent and we’re aware that in a political system as damaged as Colombia, it could happen more than once. The people who are against think that you can not pay with revenge and that’s immoral.
Apart from this, who could decide who should live and who should die. Amnesty International's Global Report on Deaths and Executions in 2016 highlights China's "grotesque" level of capital punishment, while 3,117 people were sentenced to death in 55 countries and those who oppose it say that the death penalty can be of an incriminating nature, that is, if the person who is going to commit a crime is rational then he would think about the advantages and disadvantages that he could have and he would know that the death penalty has no benefit but opponents focus on the idea that that is not proven. However, followers of the death penalty claim that the supreme punishment has existed for some time and they focus on the Law of Talon that says: "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth" that is related to the religious fomentations that say that the penalty is based on the need for expedition.
In my opinion, I think that the death penalty can be a probable alternative to improve the society in a minimum sense. It seems unfair to me that people who have massacred, tortured, murdered, raped children and adults are in a prison with possible privileges or having an unjust sentence. Many times we’re carried along by morality and that makes us "sensitive" with this type of case. However, we should be conscious to realized that Colombia is not prepared to that kind of policy because corruption abounds in this country and in case of a trial, we would never know if the person is really guilty. In fact, I think we would all end up dead with the government class in our country.
In conclusion, we do not know for sure if the death penalty will continue in our days, many countries implement it and it’s a subject much debated for a long time.
